‘Talk It Up’ includes debating workshops given to secondary school students by accomplished university debaters.
Introductory NUIG Workshop
Our first workshop is to be held in the university on Saturday the 14th of February from 11am to 3.30pm. This day will be an introduction to the ‘Talk It Up’ programme, including a workshop on how to debate and a show debate by university debaters. The students who attend will then have the opportunity to participate in a number of fun debates. If you think you might be interested, download the application form and send it to us at the address below before February 6th. This workshop will tell you everything you need to know to get started.
‘Talk It Up’ also includes regional workshops to be held before and after Christmas in different schools throughout the West. In the workshop, we lead discussions on popular topics of debate and teach you the basics of debating, as well as giving guidelines for setting up school debating societies. The workshop can be fit into an English class, though we prefer double classes, or can be run after school. If you think your school might like to host a workshop, download the application form and ask your teacher to fill it out and send it in to firstname.lastname@example.org. Because of time constraints on university students, places for schools are limited and unfortunately we may not be able to accommodate all schools, so get your application in early.
