Lisbon Treaty Debate hosted by NUIG Lit & Deb and Law Soc “This House Believes No Means No” The NUIG Literary & Debating and Law Societies host a debate on the upcoming Lisbon Treaty referendum in Áras na Mac Léinn at 8pm on Thursday September 24th. With the Lisbon referendum just around the corner, come and hear what the experts on the Treaty have to say on the core issues of the Treaty. Has anything really changed since the first vote and can our new legal guarantees be relied on? We are also the only country whose people have gotten to vote, how much of a factor should this be? In the mean time, Europe has moved on, with many member states ratifying the Treaty already. Should Ireland really be able to halt the progress of over 730 million people? Confirmed guests for the event include Minister Micháel Martin (Minister for Foreign Affairs) himself and the always controversial MEP, Patricia McKenna. As always, all are welcome to attend and following the main debate, speakers will have the chance to put their voice and vote to the test on the motion: “This House Believes No Means No”. |
