TTHW Pledge Allegiance To The Queen

Trinity v NUIG Debate

Chair: Patrick Keilty

Kirwan Thursday 18th September

Patrick KieltyFor 70 years, these 26 counties have been a purist Gaelic paradise. Everyone speaks Irish, drinks poteen and falls asleep in mass. The turf comes in and the cattle go out, all to the faint but distinct tune of a lively fiddle, which can be heard everywhere you go. Everywhere, that is, except for the place where all one hears is the harpsichord and East 17, the unholy bastion of Elizabeth the Virgin Queen; Trinity College Dublin.

Come along and hurl your insults at our oppressors in Lit & Deb’s, not-to-be-missed free comedy event.

Patrick Kielty started stand-up comedy while at University in Queens, Belfast. He became a well –known fixture at The Empire Laughs Back comedy club. Much of his early renown came from his controversial routines in which he would imitate paramilitary announcements in a balaclava. Kielty then moved into television presenting many popular shows which aired throughout UK and Ireland in including; Fame Academy and Patrick Kielty Almost Live. Kielty was had the unique privilege of interviewing Tony Blair and Bertie Ahern in their first sit-down interview since the Good Friday Peace Talks.

Although Kielty left his politically-driven comedy in favour of light entertainment, with the subject of Allegiance to the Queen on the table and presiding over snooty Trinners students, we can expect a return to a little controversy.
