That This House Believes Big is Beautiful Staff v Students Kirwan Thursday 9th October
7pm Big government: the kind of government that from the moment it pulls you out of the womb with standard issue, sterilised, Health Authority approved forceps, to the day when you’re put through a fiery oven in a box; you’re fed, clothed, housed, educated, employed and taxed the bejaysus out of by the state. They’re good enough to leave you with a little pocket money you can spend on whatever you want (as long as it’s not alcohol after 10pm, drugs or ice-cream in anything but moderation) Small government: the kind of government that advocates that the best way to ensure freedom and prosperity is to do nothing about it. Sure they collect taxes, but only enough to pay for a police force and a massive military for, eh “security†reasons. It’s based on the principals that people aren’t born equal, so society should not concern itself with trying to equalise them; if people have freedom to spend their own money on healthcare and cars, rather than have the government tax them . Speakers: Dr Muireann O'Cinneide, English Department, Dr.Aidan Kane, Economics Department Representatives from student society parties.
