|
Venue: Kirwan Theatre (Arts Concourse NUI Galway) Date: 20th January Time: 7pm
On Thursday 20th January the Literary and Debating Society, in conjunction with the Galway One World Centre, will be holding its human rights debate.
The Galway One World Centre is an education centre working towards raising awareness and changing attitudes of people in Ireland regarding global development and justice issues.
The debate will analyse the different ways human rights can be interpreted i.e. what constitutes basic human rights? It will examine the ways rights are viewed in the world today, and if this is any different to how the philosophers like John Locke viewed rights in the past. The ways in which human rights are spread throughout the world, and the inequality that exists in this regard will also be discussed. Also, the various methods of ensuring peoples human rights in a meaningful, long term way will also be examined.
So, join the Literary and Debating Society and The Galway One World Centre this Thursday evening for a lively and interesting discussion on the subject of human rights. All are welcome to attend the debate and give their own thoughts on the subject.
