"An Audience with George Lee"
Date: Monday 19th October
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Colm Ó hEocha Theatre (AM250), Arts Millennium Building, NUI Galway
Mr. Lee, one of the foremost economic and political commentators in the country recently ran for, and was elected, TD for Dublin South for Fine Gael. His election on the first count acts as evidence that his superb economic insight, simple approach and rational mindset made him a natural choice for voters.
His philosophy on Economic advice has been summed up in his own words as “concentrating on ordinary people and the way they see the world.” For over 20 years, George Lee has been predicting the economic highs and lows of this country. In 1996 Mr. Lee entered the Media Industry, being appointed Economics Editor for RTE. Two years later, he was named Irish Journalist of the Year after exposing a major tax evasion and overcharging scandal at National Irish Bank.
With his diverse background in politics, media and economics, Mr. Lee is widely regarded as having a unique insight into the current crisis and is seen as having a pivotal role to play for Fine Gael in the next general election.
Students will have the chance to put their questions to George Lee and he will be the Literary and Debating Society’s President’s Medal, the society’s highest accolade, which has been bestowed in the past upon the likes of Noam Chomsky, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Congressman Bruce Morrison and journalist Fintan O’Toole among others.
