Amsterdam EUDC 2010

New postby mitsuko045 » Thu Jan 14, 2010 7:53 pm

Hey guys.
As most of you know, Amsterdam will be the host of Euro's this year from 11-16th of July 2010!
It looks set to be an amazing competition. If I were to try and sum it up here I wouldn't do it justice so instead I direct you to their website:
http://www.amsterdameudc.org/index.php

I'd encourage everyone to try out for it and give it a shot, especially our novice speakers!

In order to start to get an idea of what requirements will be put on speakers who wish to participate we'd like to gauge the interest.
SO!
If you are interested in participating please put your name down and if have already agreed on a partner you'd like to speak with, add it to the list too.

If the interest is high enough we'll be holding trials.

Cheers!

Sean, you've already promised to out-do Oisín and Eamon.

Though to be fair, you probably don't remember that conversation. Or precisely what you promised.

Just in terms of that, far be it from us to tell Law Soc what to do, but is there not perhaps some sense in using the Cork model whereby you do joint trials and the best 4 teams go instead of essentially giving LawSoc people a "by" to Euros just because there's not a huge interest? The process doesn't seem all that transparent...

You guys should note that although trials have usually selected the best 6 individuals, they are team trials so it might be an idea to partner up!

Sean Kearns signed up too.

I dragged myself out of bed this morning at the ungodly hour of HALF TEN so that I could sit and hit refresh for thirty mins before typing several words and clicking a few links all so we could get 3 teams and 2 judges.

Don't say I never sacrifice anything for ye. I have now passed on sex AND sleep for lit and deb.
You guys are lucky you have me :p

Okay guys, just a few updates:

Financing:

We will be following the precedent which has been set over the last number of years regards Euro's, which is as follows:

Reg fee will be fully covered by the college as under the Schedule of Allowances.
As put on the website, for the reg fee "you will be provided with accommodation for 5 nights, be fed and entertained and get a chance to visit one of the prettiest cities of Europe."

As regards transport, as in previous years for Euro's, the university will cover 50% of your transport costs.
I'm currently trying to work out how booking flights and payement will work but I will let you know asap, just to give you a heads up.

Trials:

As some of you may know, trials had been planned for Sunday 7th March, however due to the lack of availability of judges and the general logistical problems that would be created by having trials on the 7th, it has been decided that trials will be postponed.
An exact date is being decided but it is hoped to have them as soon as possible so as not to interfere with people's exams etc.
Trials being postponed in no way means the closing date for reg is being postponed. Reg still closes on Tuesday 2nd March

Requirements:

Just a heads up as regards requirements for Euro's. Once again there has been no final consensus but it is very likely that there will be a requirement to have attended a certain number of IV's as prep before Euro's. Once again, all details will be finalised.

Judging:

People wishing to sign up as a judge should email their Judging C.V. listing their relevant speaking and judging achievments.
Speakers may sign up provisionally as judges too.
C.V.'s will be judged anonymously by an independent external judge.
I will post a closing date for C.V's as soon as a date for trials has been set.
C.V.'s should be sent to litndeb@gmail.com with FAO: Eimear Spain in the subject line.

Just to keep you all in the loop of where everything is at :)
All questions should be emailed to litndeb@gmail.com
