Speaker of the Year

The judging panel for the night will be chaired by Mr. Eoghan Casey, current Irish Mace and Trinity IV champion, World University Debating Championships Octo-Finalist for the Kings Inns and former champion of the Irish National Law Debates.

Motion: This House Believes Only the Wicked Need Privacy


Every year, the Speaker of the Year competition takes place, where the finest speakers in Galway come together to win the coveted trophy. Drawn from those who have won or reached the knockout stages of competitions throughout Ireland and the world, this event recognises their outstanding achievements on behalf of the society during the year.

 

The speakers will be armed with words, and pitted against each other in order to decide who can claim the title of the society's best individual speaker.

 

This year, competing for the tile of Galways Best Speaker will be:

1st Proposition - Ronan Fizpatrick

1st Opposition - Sean Butler

2nd Proposition - Jackie Driscoll

2nd Opposition - Conor Kelly

3rd Proposition - Nuala Kane

3rd Opposition - Emily Ravenscroft

4th Proposition - Evelyn Whyms

4th Opposition - Niamh McNally

 


 
Eighteenth Workshop

Where: IT Building

When: 16th March

Time: 19:00 – 21:00


Framing the Debate: Where Theory & Tactics Meet

Workshop on creating a mental framework for individual debates to allow you to conceive their philosophical cores and thus make astute tactical decisions. Concepts such as imperatives and burdens will be examined in detail.

 

This workshop will be followed by a Maidens Style show debate and a Maidens Judging Workshop.
